The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) has introduced significant changes to its CAT 2023 Admission Policy for the flagship postgraduate program, which admits students based on their performance in the Common Admission Test (CAT). Traditionally, the IIMs have shortlisted candidates using a combination of parameters, including CAT scores, Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interviews (PI).

CAT 2023 Revised Admission Policy:

In this revised admission policy, IIM Bangalore has chosen to place more emphasis on the Personal Interview (PI) round, increasing its weightage from 35% to 40% this year. This shift in focus reflects IIM-B’s commitment to identifying candidates who not only excel academically but also exhibit the soft skills and qualities necessary for leadership roles in the business world.

CAT 2023 Revised Weightage:

To accommodate this change, the weightage assigned to marks obtained in Class 10 and 12 during the shortlisting phase has been reduced from 15% to 10% each. Additionally, in the final stage of the selection process, the weightage assigned to Class 10 and Class 12 marks has decreased from 10% to 5%. This adjustment allows the admissions committee to place greater emphasis on the Personal Interview round as a more holistic evaluation of candidates.

In the broader context of CAT 2023, this year marked a historic milestone with a record-breaking number of registrations. Approximately 3.3 lakh applicants registered for CAT 2023, representing the highest number of registrations since the exam’s inception in 1977. This surge in applications is a substantial increase from the 2.55 lakh candidates who applied last year and the 2.31 lakh applicants in 2021.

IIM Bangalore Admission 2024: Final Phase Weightage

In the concluding phase of the admission process for the year 2024 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B), CAT scores continue to hold a significant weight. However, in this final evaluation, CAT scores are allocated 25 points, which are further distributed across the three key sections of the exam.

  • Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC): This section contributes 8.75 points to the overall score.
  • Data Interpretation And Logical Reasoning (DILR): It holds a weightage of 10 points.
  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA): This section contributes 6.25 points to the final score.

While these sections play a crucial role in the assessment, it’s important to note that the CAT cut-off for IIM Bangalore remains at the 85th percentile. This percentile criterion ensures that candidates who have excelled across all three sections of the CAT examination are given due consideration in the admission process for the year 2024 at IIM-B.

The CAT 2023 examination is scheduled to take place on November 26, with three different sessions. Following the completion of the exam, the results are anticipated to be released in the second week of January 2024.

These changes in IIM Bangalore’s admission policy reflect the evolving landscape of management education, where a balanced evaluation of candidates’ abilities and potential plays a pivotal role in shaping future business leaders. As CAT continues to attract a growing number of aspirants, the IIMs remain at the forefront of excellence in management education, adapting their selection processes to identify the most promising talents in the field.
