The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recently announced changes to the Exam Format for Classes 11 & 12, starting from the academic year 2024-25.

Updated Exam Format for Classes 11 & 12 Key Points:

Here’s a breakdown of the key points:

  • Focus on Competency-Based Questions: The new format emphasizes applying concepts to real-world situations. This means more questions like MCQs, case-based analysis, and source-based integrated questions.
  • Increased Weightage for Application: The percentage of competency-focused questions has gone up from 40% to 50%.
  • Reduced Focus on Long-Form Answers: The weightage for traditional constructed response questions (short and long answers) has decreased from 40% to 30%.
  • Alignment with National Education Policy: These changes aim to promote critical thinking, creativity, and a more holistic understanding of subjects, as envisioned by the NEP 2020.
